THE SAGE GATESHEAD presents
in association with Whitley Bay International Jazz Festival

MIDNIGHT IN MAYFAIR -
A TRIBUTE TO THE GREAT BRITISH DANCE BANDS

With Keith Nichols & his Park Lane Orchestra

Roy Fox, Ray Noble, Jack Hylton, The Savoy Orpheans, Lew Stone, Ambrose & His Orchestra, Nat Gonella, Harry Gold, Billy Cotton, Jack Payne, Henry Hall – all names that evoke two decades of great music from the finest of British bands and musicians. Indeed, the nineteen-twenties and thirties, sometimes referred to as “The Dancing Decades”, were a golden time for superb bands as well as great song-writing. BBC Jazz Heritage Award-winner Keith Nichols has lovingly transcribed original recordings of the era and assembled an all-star 16 piece band to play them. Packed with hot jazz soloists such as trumpeter Rico Tomasso and reedman Jean-François Bonnel, and complete with period vocals by Spats Langham and Janice Day, the Park Lane Orchestra, directed by Keith at the piano, will recreate the sounds, both exciting and romantic, of this magical age. A splendid evening for jazz fans, lovers of vintage popular music and plain nostalgia enthusiasts alike….
