JAZZ AT THE EXCHANGE
2009 - 2010 CONCERT PROGRAMME

FAREWELL BLUES…….

After eight years of bringing the best of UK, European and American jazz bands and solo artistes to North Tyneside, I regret to announce that the December 2010 Christmas Party concert will be the last in the series. Rising costs, lack of Arts Council support and declining audiences all add up to a situation where we can no longer present the quality of jazz that I would like and still break even financially. Under the circumstances, I think it best to call a halt, with thanks to all those who have supported us over the past eight years.

Those of you still looking to enjoy good traditional jazz in the region should be aware that the monthly Trinity Jazz programme at Gosforth will be continuing, and discussions are ongoing with the Customs House at South Shields re a monthly jazz concert series there in 2011. And of course there's always the November 2011 Classic Jazz Party at the Village Hotel to look forward to - check out the new stuff on our website, www.whitleybayjazzfest.org

Once again, many thanks for your support over the years, and keep jazzin'!

Mike Durham

BOX NEW BOX OFFICE ARRANGEMENTS

The Box Office number remains unchanged at 0191 643 7093, but from January 2010 it will no longer be located at the Saville Exchange and booking in person will therefore not be possible. Telephone bookings by credit or debit card will still be welcome, but we regret that in future we cannot reserve specific seats: if you wish to be certain of sitting with friends, or in a particular location in the auditorium, we can only advise you to arrive early – admission will be from 6.00pm. These changes are beyond the control of Jazz @ The Exchange, and we hope you will bear with us as we strive to keep good jazz alive in this excellent venue.

The Saville Exchange is an excellent performance and function space within a converted Wesleyan Chapel dating from 1856. It accommodates up to 280 concert patrons in a comfortable, smoke-free environment with superb acoustics and good sight-lines. Disabled access and facilities are provided and there is ample free parking. North Shields Metro station is a few minutes’ walk away. There is a bar in the concert space, and the adjacent Exchange Bistro offers an excellent pre-concert dinner menu (bookings (0191) 258 7866.

ENQUIRIES: for further information or any other enquiries, please phone Mike Durham on 0191 281 2935, or e-mail me at mikedurham_jazz@hotmail.com

All concerts start at 8.00pm unless otherwise indicated. Tickets are priced at £11 (concessions £10) unless otherwise noted.
