This is the jazz festival with a difference!
First, it’s 100% classic jazz, from ragtime to swing – over thirty hours of it, in fact
Running from mid-day on Friday to midnight on Sunday (with two-hour breaks for dinner), a new band or solo artist is brought to you at the comfort of your table every hour or half-hour, playing concerts stylistically spanning the first 40 years of the music we love, played by anything from a trio to a 14-piece big band. And there are jazz films to start the day, plus late-night jam sessions in the hotel’s Victory Pub to finish it off….
Second, it’s played by a repertory company of 35 of the best musicians from around the world
We have spared no expense in assembling a powerhouse group of accomplished musicians from seven different countries, all deeply familiar with early jazz styles: twelve of them will be joining the Classic Jazz Party for the first time this year. The concert themes are suggested by the musicians themselves, allowing them the freedom to realise "dream projects" that might otherwise never be performed: all will be properly organised concerts - no "let’s just get up there and blow" sessions.
Third, you will hear music that you will hear nowhere else
Alongside the well-loved music of Armstrong, Dodds, Ellington, Waller and Morton you will hear the music of bands and musicians seldom featured at ordinary festivals, such as Tiny Parham, Artie Shaw’s Gramercy Five, Fletcher Henderson, the University Six, Lee Wiley, the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Boyd Senter And His Senterpedes, Una Mae Carlisle, The Original Memphis Five, Mildred Bailey, Luis Russell, the Great British Dance Bands, and more….
Fourth, you are guaranteed a place to hear all the music in comfort
All concerts take place in the four-star Village Hotel’s Inspiration Suite; the room is set out cabaret style, with assigned seating (eight to a table). We sell only 280 seats, the comfortable capacity for the room, so you are guaranteed your seat, and we even rotate tables twice a day so that no-one gets stuck in a corner at the back for the whole weekend.
