All events are at the four-star Village Hotel & Leisure Centre
(built in 2002), and run from Noon to Midnight, Friday 9th July through
Sunday11th July inclusive, in four separate venues within the hotel.
The Festival Office is at 60 Highbury, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE2 3LN
(Telephone 0191 281 2935). Payment can be made by cheque or Postal
Order made out to Whitley Bay Jazz Festival. Credit/Debit Card/Paypal
bookings are welcome via this website. Full Weekend tickets for 2010
are priced
at £75, and Day tickets are also available at £30 for Friday
and Sunday and £35 for Saturday.

If you are joining us for the first time, the Festival takes place at the
Village Hotel, North Tyneside, on the Cobalt Office Park which is about
four miles from Whitley Bay itself and just off the A19. The full address
is Silverlink
North, Cobalt Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne NE27 0BY, telephone

Those travelling with SatNav should input the Hotel’s postcode,
NE27 0BY. For those navigating by more old-fashioned means, comprehensive
directions from all points of the compass follow below! There is free
parking for 400 cars at the Hotel.
On arrival at the Festival, please go to the Festival Information
Desk, located in the main reception lobby, where you can exchange your
ticket for your Weekend or Day Pass and ribbon. These should be displayed
at all times, please, to make life easier for our friendly volunteer
stewards.
Local Transport: the Festival provides a free Jazz Bus service between
the Village Hotel venue and the coast at Whitley Bay, Cullercoats and
Tynemouth. This will run between 10am and 12 noon to get you up to
the Festival venue in the morning, and from10.30pm to 12.30am to get
you back again at the end of the day - a timetable is enclosed. In
addition, four public bus services from the coast (numbers 309, 337,
355 & 356) stop outside the Hotel, and the Route 19 bus connects
with the Metro system at Northumberland Park station. Full bus timetables

In addition, we have negotiated a special deal with East Coast Taxis
for discounted fares between the Village Hotel and Whitley Bay/Tynemouth,
for those who prefer a fully flexible, door-to-door service: phone

If you are looking for alternative hotel accommodation, there is a
Premier Inn at Holystone and a Travelodge (the former Menzies Hotel)
at Silverlink, both just a few minutes away by car. For B&Bs or
other area hotels, the Whitley Bay Tourist Information Office (0191
200 5895) will be pleased to assist you.
OTHER THINGS TO SEE & DO
Nearby tourist attractions
include Durham Cathedral and Castle, Hadrian’s
Wall and its attendant forts, Alnwick Castle & Gardens, the giant
MetroCentre shopping mall and Newcastle/Gateshead’s vibrant Riverside
scene. Further afield, the countryside between Tyneside and the Scottish
Borders offers wonderful vistas, quaint villages and many a mediaeval
castle. Nearer at hand, you can stroll along the beautiful sands of
Whitley Bay and Tynemouth beaches, or visit the romantic ruins of Tynemouth
Castle and Priory (not to forget amazing fish & chips on North
Shields Fish Quay!). East Coast Taxis also offer reasonably-priced
tours of local attractions.

| Northbound by car
Follow the A1M Northbound. Take the A194 towards Hebburn and Tyne Tunnel. Join
the A19 towards the Tyne Tunnel. Continue through the Tyne Tunnel. On leaving
tunnel, turn left on A19 North towards Morpeth. At the next roundabout continue
on the A19 North, then take the first slip road on the left. At the bottom
of the ramp, turn right at the big roundabout onto the A191 for Whitley Bay
and New York. Go straight over the next roundabout, staying on the A191 for
Whitley Bay Centre and Country Park. Pass Northumberland Arms on your right,
then turn right at the roundabout onto Silverlink North (brown sign for Village
Hotel). Hotel is 100 yards on the right.
Southbound by car
From the A1 southbound, join the A19 at Cramlington. Turn off to join A191
signposted for Whitley Bay. At the big roundabout take the second exit onto
the A191, signed for Whitley Bay. Go straight over the next roundabout, staying
on the A191 for Whitley Bay Centre and Country Park. Pass Northumberland
Arms on your right then turn right at the roundabout onto Silverlink North
(brown sign for VILLAGE HOTEL). The Hotel is 100 yards on the right.

Westbound by car
From the A69, take the A167 (inner city motorway) and fork left at the underpass
onto the A1058 signed for Tynemouth and the Coast. At the Silverlink exit,
stay in left lane on exit ramp and turn left onto A19 North. Leave at first
sliproad exit on the left. At the bottom of the ramp, turn right at the big
roundabout onto the A191 for Whitley Bay and New York. Go straight over the
next roundabout, staying on the A191 for Whitley Bay Centre and Country Park.
Pass Northumberland Arms on your right, then turn right at the roundabout
onto Silverlink North (brown sign for VILLAGE HOTEL). The Hotel is 100 yards
on the right.
From Newcastle/Gateshead by car
Crossing the Tyne bridge, bear right and take the underpass (A167), then take
first exit ramp on the right, signed for A1058, Wallsend & The Coast.
Stay on the A1058 until the Silverlink exit. Keep in left lane on exit ramp
and turn left onto A19 North, signed for Morpeth. Leave at first sliproad
on the left. At bottom of ramp, turn right at the big roundabout onto the
A191 for Whitley Bay and New York. Go straight over the next roundabout,
staying on the A191 for Whitley Bay Centre and Country Park. Just past Northumberland
Arms pub on your right, turn right at the roundabout onto Silverlink North
(brown sign for VILLAGE HOTEL). Hotel is 100 yards on the right.
By rail
Newcastle Central Station - 6 miles. Taxi from here to Village Hotel, or you
can take the Metro to Northumberland Park station, then the Route 19 bus
to Silverlink North – the bus stops in front of the Hotel.
By air
Newcastle International Airport - 12 miles. Continue by Taxi, or you can take
the Metro to Northumberland Park station, then the Route 19 bus to Silverlink
North – the bus stops in front of the Village Hotel. |
