This is the jazz party with a difference, now celebrating 25 years of good music!
Now in its 25th year, the Mike Durham Classic Jazz Party is continued in loving memory of its original founder and director, Mike Durham.
This is the connoisseur's jazz party, with nearly 40 different bands and over 30 hours of classic jazz and swing, all brought to you in comfort at the four star Village Hotel in Newcastle. The concerts start at mid-day, and run through to 11pm, before the jam sessions stretch out into the night at the Victory Pub
We've got 35 of the best international musicians, playing music from the first 40 years of the music we all love.
The concert themes are suggested by the musicians themselves, allowing them the freedom to realise "dream projects" that might otherwise never be performed: all will be properly organised concerts - no "let’s just get up there and blow" sessions. Previous years have included tributes to the New Orleans Rhythm Kings, Paul Whiteman, Jabbo Smith, Ben Pollack, Bechet, Jelly Roll Morton, Jack Purvis, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and so many more.
All concerts take place in the four-star Village Hotel’s Inspiration Suite; the room is set out cabaret style, with assigned seating (eight to a table). You are guaranteed your seat, and we even rotate tables twice a day so that no-one gets stuck in a corner at the back for the whole weekend.
Prices for the Village Hotel have been frozen at 2014 levels
Every year, the standard goes up - take a look at Keith Nichols' New Paul Whiteman Orchestra from the 2014 party!
